Reading Response 2

In his article "What is it we do when we write Articles like this one-and how can we get students to join us?" Michael Kleine explains to the readers how he is trying to figure out how can professors can teach students to research more like how professional researchers do. He argues on how there are different methods of being a strategic or heuristic methods. He argues that in using his method of heuristic it is easier to establish research patterns because one is able to clearly see the trail of where the researchers started and where they ended up.

Connections: This reading connects with the previous reading we did because when you are in a argument you have to research to back it up. The very first reading we read was the Intro in the book, "Writings about Writings" talks about how you would go about arguing your point in a discussion and this reading talks about finding out the data for yourself. This method will help me with my researching skills and I can use the problem-solving pattern to answer questions.

 Getting ready to read:
1. My friend and I talked about the most recent experience of writing using sources and we found out the most common and usually the number one source would be the internet. We don't always trust the internet because not all the sites are reliable. The next site we found we used would be books from libraries. We used these books to cite specific quotes from books, and we know they are reliable. We take what we get from our sources and turn the information into our own words to answer questions.

Pg 32.
1. Kleine's talking about line up relates to my own experiences because in his article he states that most of his colleagues recall their techniques by seeing what they are mostly interested in rather than what they have to actually research. When I write if I am not interested in what I am writing then it will not be the best piece of work, but if i get to pick what interests me then I will get more involved and put more thought into it because I will get more into the paper and research.

Pg 33.
3.  Sources plays a key role in the research of the professionals Kleine interviews because without the sources you wouldn't have the material or the background information to back your point up. For my past research sources have played a big role on my research because I need to have facts on the topic that I am discussing or arguing for or against. The difference between the two sources is that one is a professional source and the other is the sources that I get or what I need.

4. How my research would change since I've learned about Kleine's model would be to try and follow his model better, find what interests me and then go from there.

My opinion:
The article to me was very interesting, I think it is amazing how he thought of the model, and how accurate it is, and how he actually tried it on his colleagues. Kleine's model will be very helpful to me because it is showing how to research and how to research like a professional researcher would. The ideas are like mine because I pick topics I like and write about them. I agree with Kleine and how his model is.
